I've been stranded 3 times, twice in cars with malfunctioning gauges, so I
won't count those. The worst was when I was in my dad's diesel P/U, towing a
horse trailer with a piano in it up Washington 17 to Moses Lake. I knew I
was running a bit low, but there aren't many gas stations in that area, so I
thought I could make it to the next small town (doing mileage/miles on tank
calculations in my head). Nevertheless, I ended up parking the truck/horse
trailer on the side of the road and waiting for someone to stop.

Someone stopped, we drove 10-15 miles back to his brother's farm, got the
pickup with the diesel tank in the bank, and pumped at least 10 gallons into
the truck. I offered to pay, but since he turned out to be my dad's
neighbor, he refused, saying he'd just give my dad a hard time about it
(PLEASE let me pay!...).

The weird think about this is that my warning light just came on about 5
minutes before it happened while I was in the Drive through @ In & Out... so
I figured *I got time*.. Then my car starts to putter on the way to the gas
station... and clunk!!!  I ran out about 150 feet from the gas station!!!
DOH.. I have ran my car much past that point before.. it was not like
anything out of the norm to see the light come on.. that means I still have
5 gallons left.. not so in this case anyway...
