i felt more cramped in the A4 rear seats than in the 
A3, but the numbers tell a different story..

Hmm, on the A4 Jetta, I found the trunk to be smaller (at least usablely
smaller). I Can fit 4 GLX tires/wheels, an air tank, jack, and some other
things in my '98. When I picked up 4 tires/wheels for my '98 in a '99.5
loaner car, I had to put the seat down to fit all 4 tires in.

I guess I should be more specific about the space.  Front seat headroom
better, front
and rear seat leg room better and trunk space is bigger compared to the A3
chassis.
Rear seat headroom is less though due to the new rear roof design.   If you
look at the
Golf GTi's, the A4 chassis is bigger in every respect compared to the A3
chassis.
