Tranny trouble

Hi folks

Well my GLX('95 5sp,97k miles) seems a bit upset with me for ignoring it
for a week while traveling.  We were on the way to drop the other
vehicle(Mazda pickup) off for a 3 day stay at the dealer(rear oil seal) the
GLX decided it wanted attention as well.  I had to jump it earlier in the
day due to a back door that had not been closed all the way for a week.  I
let it run for a while in the driveway and then went about 12 miles or so
on local roads to the highway.  I finally got some room and moved over to
the left lane. As I  went to up shift from 4th to 5th, the shifter felt
like someone had replaced the oil with glue, and it wouldn't go into 5th.
After determining that something major was wrong, I hit the hazards to let
the person who was following me in the truck know something was wrong and
dove for the breakdown lane.  There looked underneath, no liquid leaking
out, 2nd and 4th are there but the shifter wont go near R-1-3-5.  I limped
it to the dealer and left it there for the morning.  Any ideas what this
might be?  My old GLI exhibited a similar problem when the engine mount
broke, but I'm not sure  that this would produce the same symptoms in the GLX



Well looks like I'm driving mom's old Volvo until 1 of the vehicles is done.
