Re: aftermarket brake discs
I had a set of cross drilled rotors installed on the front brakes of my
Mazda 626.Turbo. I had them for 2 years and they went through all sorts
of rain and salty winter conditions down to -35.
For most of that time they were my only brakes as the rears calipers had
seized up the first winter . They never cracked or gave me any problems. I
put about 50,000 km on them and replaced the pads for the first time this
spring. I asked the shop I bought them from about slotted rotors. He said
he would sell them to me but its a waste of money for the street. The only
advantage slotted rotors have is they keep the surface of the pads clean
and fresh better. The downside is the pads are being worn down at an
increased rate so you'll go through a lot more pads this way. He said they
look cool but on the street you won't get any noticeable improvement over
drilled rotors.
