RE: Interior Creaking

Chris,

Now you can see why I dread the winters up here in the Northeast--every
winter I get new creaks and rattles like no tomorrow. For your problem,
here's what you do. Press the palm of your hand against the outside top door
frame. Press all around the top part of the door. If you hear any squeaking
or creaking, you need to go to the dealer and ask for a) isolation tape, or
b) the newer style door moldings. (a) is obviously the cheaper route, but
it's only temporary. The tape peels off after about a year. This is what I'm
doing now to fix the problem. (b) was put in for '98 and later models (I
think). I have no idea as to the cost or replacement labor, but if your
moldings are beginning to show signs of wear then I would suggest you do it
this way.

There is a TSB on this (can be found at
http://tech.vw.com/pdf/57-95-08.pdf). If this doesn't solve the problem,
there are about a zillion other TSBs at the site pertaining to various odd
noises. Is this telling us something about the quality of our VW's?
