Think of it this way: Joe Smith has one more year left on his contract. If
the Celts was to trade for him, they have more options.

1) He may become an outstanding player; Keep him.
2) He's a loser and wants too much money:
2A) They can trade him for someone else and make them take a contract.
2B) Do not resign him.
