Comparisons

Comparisons come from a number of different angles.  On the ones that
count to me, I am not sure that Antoine will ever match up to Cowens,
Russell, KC, Jo Jo, Larry, Chief, Kevin, Havlichek, or Bird.  To me it
is an intangible form of leadership brought to the floor.  Those guys
were all about the team first and winning first.  They brought
intangible forms of leaderships that proved they were champions.
Antoine has, to me, a long way to go before proving he has that kind of
leadership quality.  Physically, he can get twice the numbers all those
guys got togehter, but if he doesn't make his team better, he will be
just another Derrick Coleman.  The jury is out on Walker, but not
because of age or ability, but because he has not shown the leadership
ability.

I did like what I heard on the radio the other night.  He apparantly
made some nice passes for big baskets late in the game and he hit a big
3 with the clock running down.  That kind of play is encouraging.  But,
can he learn to get into the zone like Bird, et al did more often than
the rest of the run of the mill talented NBA player, that is the
question.

To suggest that he will be "better" than Bird or anyone of that skill
level, and accomplishment, is really something that can only be compared
by the intangibles.   Those are known when you have to decide, if I have
them all together in their prime, who do I pick first.  To me it is this
way:

1.    Russell
2.    Magic
3.    Bird
4.    Jordan
5.    Kareem Abdul Jabbar
6.    Chamberlain

I may have misspelled some of those names.  But, to me those are the
ones you want.  You can change up the order, but they are the best ever
in the NBA.  It will be a long time before you can think of Walker in
the same thought.  It is not realistic at this time.  Yeah, he has
talent.  But, so does Derrick Coleman.  You gonna pick Derrick.  I don't
think so.  If you do, you'll be looking to trade him as soon as
possible.

Why not list your picks of who you would take for you first 6 or 7
players if you could pick them in their prime.  I would like to know if
anyone would really pick Walker right now.
