Another set of observations....
First I only get the away games (Satellite, subscribe to WBSK) since I
live in Florida, or, the nationally televised games, so have not seen
them all and have the box scores and recaps from INet, plus the comments
made here to go by ...but anyway:
Dano Barros - Useless. Can't break the press, can't guard anybody. Can't
run the floor..Is totally not a point guard.
Dee Brown - Useless. See all of the above.
Chauncy Billips - Has possibilities. Much bigger and stronger than the
the two above. Can break press and dish off on the run.
Looks like he has a decent shot. Is capable of annoying
the other team's PG. Give him time. He has the toughest
position to learn of any rookie - by FAR!
Tyrus Edney - Have not seen him play this year, but have in the past
and he is a true point guard. Much better than Barros or
Dee will ever be. Will never be more than a off the bench
hold the fort type player, but adequate.
The team CANNOT play well until a true point guard of quality is in
command of the ship. Billips is the ONLY possibility we have.
Purvis Ellison - Should be traded to a contender. Could really help
several of them as a backup center, PF. Useless for us.
Has never been able to shoot and should never even try.
A dunk stretchs his range!
Bowen - A steal - Reminds me of the 6th man Michael Pain of the
Lakers, who only came in to guard Bird. Will be a very
important 6th or 7th man for the C's for years to come.
McCarty - Great athlete....Should be an outstanding player. Has
great talent. Let him play his 40 mins a night and get
the experience. Magic Johnson couldn't shoot long range
when he came in the league and neither could Michael
Jordan. They learned!
Knight - Looks much better than expected. Certainly better than
any one the Bulls have for example. With a Oakley type
PF, or a Dale Davis type to get the bounds, would be
just fine for us. Very pleased at his play.
Roberts - Dunno yet. If he has an enforcer mentality, could be
a very valuable player for us down the road. He appears
to be our ONLY player who might have what it takes to be
a hatchet-man.
Walker Has looked very bad...Hands and shooting. Not worried
about the shooting - that will be Ok...but the hands??
That was one of Bird's greatest assets - the hands.
Mercer Looks very good. If he was playing in Chicago with a MJ
type threat on the floor would be getting wide open shots
and be a killer. Very happy with him.
Summing up the above: Am very happy with Pitino's moving of people
around. The worst we have left are the ones we have left from MLC's
days. The sooner they are gone, the better off we are. I assume RP is
doing everything possible to get rid of them, without just dumping them
and having to eat the cap....However, that may be the ONLY way to get
rid of em, tho Ellison is at least semi-tradeable.
