The celtics have a team with the average age of 24 that are trying to
learn one of the most difficult systems in basketball, pressure offense
and pressure defense at 100 miles per hour. The team is still in the
process of determining what each player's strengths and weaknesses are,
so that they will know who gets the ball in certain situations. The only
people that seem to understand what is going on are Mercer, Walker, and
McCarty and we all know the reason for that. I saw the same thing happen
at Kentucky in Pitino's first year and I could not understand what all
the Hoopla was about how good Pitino was. WELL, in his second year I
could not believe how well the press worked and the players played
together.
Some of the Celtic's faithful want the Micro wave success of an instant
championship. However, it only going to come from the old wooden stove
of patience. For those of you who expect an instant championship you
will be thoroughly disappointed. I think we will be competitive by the
end of the season, make the playoffs next year, in the top 4 or finals
the following year, and then the fun begins.
Every player at the end of the 82 game season will be a better .
Billups is more comfortable when he feels that he is in control of the
offense. When he is in that mode he usually breaks down his opponent and
either makes the great pass, drive, or jumper. When the players stand
around he usually throws the ball away, because there is no movement. I
blame the receiver also, because he has to move to recieve the ball. My
philosophy is if you want the ball your body must be in position to see
the ball at all times, Therefore, see the ball, so the ball can see you.
I think that the player on the move will get the ball every time.
