Smog Problem on '91 Jetta GLX
I have a '91 Jetta GLX (131K miles) that I am having problems when it
comes to getting smogged. I have replaced every smog component,
including the cat, and even the ignition starter switch. The car
constantly fails on the load test. Here is what happens. When the car is
at running temp, they start the test. The car does great for the first
phase. Once they have to run the car above 2500 RPM, the motor will
suddenly click, and I believe the computer thinks the car is cold. When
this happens, I think the air-fuel mixture richens (as though the car is
at start up) and the CO2 readings go above 300%. Now I am at a stage 2
station and it still can't pass.
Does anyone have any ideas or things I can look at? Thanks in advance
for any help you can provide StaceyFolsom, CA
