Re: 1.8T Cabrio?

Wait for a 2001 or get a 2000 now? Hmmm. I was pondering that same thing
Friday.

The only thing I know for sure they're going to have for 2001 is a sport
suspension option and a 17" wheel option. I'm sure the new suspension will
be better than the current one, but either way I'd probably at least end up
getting better quality struts and shocks, so that becomes less of an issue.
I'd actually rather have 16" wheels, so that isn't too much of an issue,
either.

Incentive-wise on the '00's, I don't know about the rest of the country, but
in my area (NJ/NY) if you get a manual transmission you get a free CD
changer. Also, for the month of May (maybe longer if VW Credit continues
the program), there are lower lease rates on all manual transmission Jettas
(Jettas only, not Golfs or GTI's), which in my case saves about $20/month.
So far, so good.

Actually, I started out shopping for a GTI (just like I did when I got my
'89 and '97 Jettas). However, GTI GLX's are few and far between. Also,
with the new lease rates, at MSRP the payment on a $24,795 Jetta GLX ends up
being almost the same as a $23,245 GTI GLX. Then, if you figure you can get
a bigger discount on the Jetta, it becomes cheaper that the GTI. I'd take
the Jetta GLX, but I'm not a leather or wood person. IMHO the wood looks
cheesy (although the dark stuff in the GTI is cool) and leather, well, I
just don't like it (especially with non-sport seats) . The three spoke
steering wheel is schweet, though.

So, I should have an Atlantic Blue/grey cloth GLS VR6 5 spd in a week or so.
I doubt I'll have any regrets about getting a '00 unless the '01's have
sports seats and/or the aforementioned three-spoke steering wheel with cloth
seats.

Also, I'm not really sure why I'm getting a new car. My '97 is doing fine.
In fact, it's been the most fun and trouble-free car that I (or just about
anybody I know) have ever owned. It will be missed and I hope the '00 can
live up to it's precedent.
