power window motor

My front passenger side window refuses to go up beyond 2/3 of the way from
the bottom. I finally managed to grip it on both sides and manually lift
it to the top, with the motor assisting.

The local mechanic opened up the panel (I couldn't be with the car at that
point) and says that the cable that comes out of the window motor and
raises/lowers the window is all twisted up.

I've priced the motor and regulator, but was wondering if this cable was
something that could be replaced on its own. I'm going to take a look
inside myself this weekend, but thought I'd ask here since the window
motor/regulator seems to be a common failure item.
