Clearly, your precious driveway space isn't worth $1500, or you would
have reduced the price to $17,500 already.
I'm not addressing the fact of whether VW's keep their resale value
or not, but simple market economics principles indicate that the more
out of the price range you are, the harder time you will have to sell
a commodity, and the lower price range you are, the easier time you
will have selling the same item.
Sure, the car may be worth $19,000, but based on basic interest,
you've already lost $350 or so by not selling the car during this
time and investing it in a mutual fund, or to derive some benefit
from your capital investment.
You've got easily $15,000 tied up in the car that you could quickly
liquidate and make money on an investment and make the money work for
you. Don't get blinded by the fact that the car is worth $19,000, and
you won't sell it for a penny less.
Just some advice, I know it wasn't requested, but take it for what it's worth.
