fuel guage light

Hi everyone,
         I bought a 95 jetta glx about a year ago and
have never had the fuel gauge light go on and I know
that I have been to the point where the fuel was about
to run out.  Does my car have a fuel gauge light and
it is just not working?? or am I stupid and my car
does not even have this light?  Anyway, any replies
would be nice.
