When I bought my Jetta GLX, I ran the gauge close to the bottom of the
red area.  I told my wife it was low, but she had plenty gas to get to
work and back (3 mile round trip).  She called me at work and told me
she ran out of gas on the way back!  Doh!  Yeah, I felt like shit. 
Hehe.  Apparently, the gauge reads a little differently than the GTI VR6
we had just sold.  :-)
