Some time ago i talked to a guy that instals this type of things, there are sensors that would prevent your car from starting if its in gear. Basically there are two photo sensors that watch the shifter lever if its in center position and one more that makes shure that your parking brake is on, if all conditions are met then it starts the car. He wanted like $700 for it with instalation....
For that much money i can suffer a little cold for about 10 minutes...

That's what I figured... If I was parking on a slant of any kind, I'd
want my car in gear and it would suck if you hit the wrong button
getting it out of your pocket...
