Chris- stupid me forgot to ask what VW uses to lube
these suckers up. Duh!! Sorry not a "real" response,
but I can get one next time I cruise by the dealer. :)

Matt- glad the explanation helped. If you are worried
about either take it in to have it checked or give
those rails and cable a good look over. 

Funny thing is my dad has a '87 MBZ 300D and he
snapped the plastic cable to his roof a couple of
years ago. Still hasn't fixed it because it costs
upward of $800 to fix the the stupid thing. Makes me
want my old manual puller sunroof on my Peugeot again.
I'm tell you these "modern" conveniences... :)
