Everything you always wanted to know about.......

  ........last season.

I copied these facts from another NBA message board.
They were taken out of the 2002-2003 Harvey Pollack Statistical Yearbook.
Some fun stuff. Some strange stuff.

Joe Crawford led NBA officials in ejection's last year with 8 (he tossed
Fortson twice).

Shaq was 1st in the league in dunks last season (252, 11 in one game). Who
was second? Pau Gasol with 177. K-Mart led in alley-oop dunks with 42.
Keon Clark had the most follow-up dunks with 12. Mourning, Webber, and
T-Mac each had 9 reverse dunks.

Karl Malone hit the most 18-footers (56). Jordan had the most baskets from
16 and 17 feet. Eddie Jones had 5 game-winning field goals; Antonis Fotsis
had 1. Nowitzki won 5 games with free throws.

Antoine Walker had his shot blocked the most times with 125. Jermaine O'Neal
was 2nd, Shareef Abdur-Rahim 3rd. Abdur-Rahim led in this category 4 of the
5 preceding years. Shaq had his shot blocked 53 times.

Gary Payton is the only player to play AND score double figures in all 82
games last season.

Portland led the league in technicals with 95. The next most was 66. Since
the Flagrant Foul rule was instituted in 1990, the career leader is Oakley
with 41.

Mark Pope led the Trillion Club with 9. These are games a guy plays where
his box score has a number for minutes, followed by 15 zeroes in all the
other categories.

Philadelphia had the most knee injuries last season, Dallas the most ankle
injuries. The Lakers led in foot injuries (I thought it would be Cleveland).
Only Sacramento reported a chicken pox injury.

Atlanta, Philly, and Detroit tied for most players with visible tattoos (9).

The four smallest crowds last season were all for New Jersey home games.

Alonzo Mourning had the most offensive fouls with 49 (Shaq was 3rd with 44,
Jermaine O'Neal had 47). Indiana had the most as a team, over twice as many
as Dallas, the team with the least.

Shaq had the best plus-minus in the league, edging Tim Duncan 560-559. The
rest of the top 10: Divac, Christie, Bryant, Turkoglu, DRobinson, DGeorge,
Nowitzki, and Webber. Worst in the league was Trenton Hassell with -459.
Antawn Jamison was third from the bottom with -365 (this is why he doesn't
make All-Star teams). The worst number for someone who was an All-Star last
season was Abdur-Rahim with -223.

Once again last year, Paul Pierce scored the most 4th quarter points with
552. Second place was Jalen Rose with 484. Duncan had the most 1st quarter
points, Shaq led the 2nd quarter, and Kobe led the 3rd.

The most shots without a miss in a game last year was 9-for-9, done by
Mutombo and Jarrod Collins. The most shots without a basket was 0-for-12 by
Derek Anderson.

Mutombo and Mourning tied for the lead in three-second violations with 20.

Houston took the most timeouts with 445. Just let the game end already,
Rudy! Memphis took 120 20-second timeouts, Sacramento only took 20.

Monty Williams' actual first name is Tavares. P.J. Brown's actual first name
is Collier.

Wilt Chamberlain scored at least 50 points in a game 122 times. MJ is next
with 37.

Fortson led the league with 58 loose ball fouls, WAY ahead of Kurt Thomas,
who was second with 35.

Four players in NBA history have had a game with at least 30 points, 20
rebounds, and 20 assists:
Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Guy Rodgers, and Fat Lever

The Nets played the quickest games in the league (average of 2:07.1), Laker
games took the longest (2:15.9)

Williams and Brown were the most common last names in the league last season,
with 9 of each:
Aaron, Alvin, Eric, Jason, Jerome, Monty, Scott, Shammond, and Walt Williams
Chucky, Damone, Dee, Ernest, Kedrick, Kwame, P.J., Randy, and Tierre Brown

The worst field goal shooter with at least 100 attempts was John Amaechi with
32.5 %.

Minnesota had the best rebound differential, averaging 4.7 rebounds a game
more than its opponents. Orlando was worst, averaging 4.2 rebounds less than
the opposition.

Houston had the most 24-second shot clock violations with 78; Jersey had the
least with 21 (no surprise that Dallas, Sacramento, and Phoenix were also in
the bottom 5). San Antonio and Detroit had the defenses that CAUSED the most
24-second violations, with 65.

The Wallace brothers, Ben and Rasheed, were the only NBA players to have 100
each rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.

With a payroll of $85.5 million and 30 wins, the Knicks paid the most per win
last season ($2.85 million)

Dirk Nowitzki and Ray Allen each had two 4-point plays last season.

Alonzo Mourning had the best record on opening jump balls, winning 79% of
them. Juwan Howard was worst with 30%. McGrady won 33%, but was 5-0 on
jumps to start overtime. On jump balls that were during a game (not to start
the game or an overtime), Shaq was best at 8-0, Don Reid 0-7.

Mutombo had the most defensive 3-second calls with 42. Mourning was 2nd with
28.

being fouled while taking a three-pointer. Two of the six times, Posey
missed all three free throws.
