re: Irony

Mark, excellent appraisal. I don't think that critics of Kenny, Battie, etc. including Walker were wrong. These guys have just kept getting better. The same could be said for Ben Wallace, Kerry Kittles and others of the opposition. Our guys have this interesting "two stars" but "not just a two-man team" thing going. Right now it's working. The role players are getting the recognition that only winning can bring; they can swagger now because of playoff wins where ppg or rpg are meaningless. Kenny's transformation is the most remarkable, of course. He is to some a dead man walking, or running slowly, but he gets it done. Most amazing is our ability to hang tough with a parade of power forwards. Rogers shows more versatility than I had expected and Battie has moved into the category of a keeper. Walker, whose abilities now seem harnessed like a three year old colt, seems to be enjoying the role of Mr. Versatility while eschewing the hasty shot. It's not quite an embarrassment of riches, but it's about as sweet as it can be. Quel ride! Gene

PS: I can now only question "the trade" on paper--if we fail to resign Rogers, if our various role players fade next year and we're left without top quality players to develop, if we fail with Kedrick. But what really seems to augment the trade of good veterans for a potentially great youngster is the defense. We are winning not because of more talent but because of talent committed to super defense. I'll take it.
