one more thing
One thing lost in the trade talk today is Pitino's pledge to use the press
to a greater extent after the All-Star break. This, I think, adds some
perspective to the trade, because if they're going to press more, you
certainly can't count on Kenny. He's been great so far, but he's not going
to be as effective in the press and he's not going to hold up playing big
minutes in the press. Alvin Williams is perfect for the press.
You know, the press worked Pitino's first year, with a less talented team.
He scrapped it last year because of the lockout and the players being out of
shape/unable to learn it without training camp. I never did understand why
we abandoned it altogether this year. The Fortson acquisition may have had
something to do with it, because the team clearly couldn't press with he and
Vitaly on the floor at the same time. But when Fortson went down (then out
of the rotation), it changed the makeup of this team.
It seems to me a team of A. Williams, A. Griffin (or Calbert), Paul Piece,
Antoine Walker and VP/Tony Battie could be a pretty effective pressing team.
Anyway, it sounds like it's something we'll see after the break.
