Re: Televised Game
It was quite refreshing to watch the game on TBS, because they had nothing
but praise for several of the Celtics players. Quite different from the
microscope many on the list see them through.
They felt that the Celts' problems stemmed from their youth and inexperience
as well as lack of preseason/practice. That Pierce and Mercer were wonderful
players and will blossom into stars. That the Potapenko trade was basically
a no-brainer and great for the C's. That Battie is becoming more and more
comfortable, particularly alongside Vitaly. That they need a veteran or two
a la Toronto to really get over the hump. That Pitino has a decision to make
about Kenny. They were very impressed that the Celts did not quit after the
Knicks started out 16-0 and that, in fact, they would not go away -- despite
their season, inexperience and ineffective Walker. Finally, they expect to
see the Celtics in the playoffs next season.
Now I know that on nationally televised games the broadcasters' jobs is to
talk up each team, particularly as it does well. But even through that kind
of fluff, it was obvious that they thought the Celts were a young,
up-and-coming team, even AS THEY ARE; not on the verge of collapsing or in
need of an overhaul, as many on this list seem to think.
