One of the things I was thinking of, was that if new cap rules go in effect=
and they (hopefully) limit an individuals salary to a percentage of the=
cap. That incentives could be given based on both individual and (even=
greater incentives) on team play. Say if a player's maximum salary were 10=
mil a year. They could end up with 20 or so a year IF they win the champion=
ship.
Something like 100k, 250k, 500k, 1 mil for each playoff series won, as well=
as 10, 15, 20, 25% of your individual salary. Plus lesser bonuses for=
All-Star, All defensive team, etc. (Come up with some formula where each=
round is worth 30 million total, and this would drop the cap by 4 mil a=
team overall)
Hopefully it would emphasize team play and less of the me, me, me. The top=
tier players would all be making the same as a base salary, but those who=
could lead their teams to win the finals would be making the most.
Some sort of "Larry Bird" exeption could stay in effect so there still=
wouldn't be a "hard" cap but that amount would be limited unlike now.=
Player is on team A and is making 10 mil, team B has 10 mil available but=
has a better chance of making the playoffs. team A can offer a 2 million or=
whatever exemption in addition to that players base.
Off course the player association would probably die laughing but hey it's a=
thought.
