To everyone on the list:

Sending an email to the list asking, "Is the list down?" is a particularly 
silly way to check.  If the list is down, no one will be able to answer you.  
When it comes back up, we all get the mails, but then we know the list is up, 
right?  Now I am going through my mail deleting 20 of these things.
