My favorite Tommy Heinsohn moment came a couple of years ago when Dino
Radja caught a difficult pass and Heinsohn seemingly went out of his
mind: 'HE HAS THE BEST HANDS IN THE NBA!!!" and couldn't stop himself
before he had his hands just about equal with Bird's.
And how about when Tommy tried to inject some excitement into the
sorry short guards of the last couple of years by saying bing and a-bang
and a-boom whenever they hit a long shot? Cling and a clang and a-clunk
would have been more like it.
I like him as a personality and Celtics great, but he's become a shill
for the Celtics owners.
Don't forget that the team has approval over hiring of the announcers.
They got rid of Glenn Ordway on the radio when he mocked the lousy
teams, and the Globe has hinted that they wanted to ease out Cousy, but
can't of course because of PR concerns.
On another subject, I like a lot of list members am a little uneasy
about Pitino's moves and handling of Billups, but I look at it this way:
Will they be better off with Pitino's methods in four years? He may make
some missteps, but I think there is virtually no chance that over the
long haul he won't build a vastly better club.
