Wasn't Marshall drafted by the previous regime in Minnesota? As was Rider? I
guess Marshall (he was the reason for the rookie cap) wasn't what McHale wanted
as a player and Rider was prone to trouble. When they traded for Googs, he was
thoght to be a bust because he didn't live up to the hype of next Bird. He was
never had the security and when he finally did in Minnesota he blossmed to
player many hyped him to be. Rider was playing way below his potential and had
too much of a problem. Laettner was also bitching for playing center.
I guess McHale wanted to start from scratch. It is the same for Pitino who
instead did not resign any of the players from last season except dead weights
with long term contracts.
