Re: Young-uns

I don't understand it, either.

In the days of the old Celtic Pride Magazine, they had articles written each
issue by the coach, the announcers, and some regular sports writers. I
believe they had something called "Ask Red"? Anyway, someone wrote and asked
if a college team, which was hot at the time, could beat an NBA team. He said
no, a college team could not beat an NBA team, for various reasons. IMHO, we
have a college team right now. The Bulls game was great fun and a lift for
all us die hard Celtic fans, but I believe they caught the Bulls out of proper
condition and surprised the heck out of them. I note the Bulls just lost
again. Many on this list said we have to have patience, this team will take
half the year to get it together. Where's that patience now? You want to
trade Billups after just a few games? Pitino said we wouldn't win right away,
where's his patience? I'm just as anxious for wins as anyone, in fact it's
downright painful to have to go through this losing game after game, but this
is what Pitino is all about. If he wanted to win right away he should have
kept a couple of the veteran players from last year. This defense of his can
only be played selectively, you have to employ it selectively. Time needs to
be spent on passing, driving to the basket, making foul shots, etc. It's
going to be a long haul, I don't think there are any quick fixes at this
stage. I like some of these players very much, am just beginning to put the
faces with the names, forget the numbers on their uniforms. We're only a few
games into the season and already we want to trade players. I don't see that
we have much to trade that anyone would want except the players who represent
the Celtics' future. Most of these young guys do have a shiny future, I
believe, but they have to grow up, they're just a bunch of kids. You don't
win with kids until they get some experience and some maturity. The real pros
are going to take them to school every night, and in time they'll learn, like
any kids.

Just some of my feelings, guys, for what's it's worth.
