I had a lot of trouble trying to watch the opening night game
against the Bulls because Time Warner scrambles Sports Channel during
games to make you subscribe to season ticket. I don't have a problem with
making SC a pay channel, but to include it in the standard package without
mentioning that it will be scrambled during games (which is the only time
anyone would want to watch it) is completely misleading.
So by the time I could get to a friend's place in the Media One
cable zone, the fourth quarter was under way. And what a fourth quarter!!
I have never seen that much energy at the fleetcenter. No one credits me
with predicting this upset about three weeks ago. Granted I said there
was a 40% chance of an upset, but I was trying to be realistic.
I have a feeling McCarty will have a monster game tonight against
his former team, which only used him to keep the bench warm. Mishra
you're probably reading too much into the Mills trade. I agree that
Pitino may have signed him with the intent of trading him, but I doubt he
had a deal worked out with the knicks two months ago. Pitino mentioned
that he had to haggle a bit to get both McCarty and Jones included without
giving up a first round pick.
I have a feeling Ellison's minutes are suffering because he is
dogging it during practice. Pitino was quoted in the globe as saying that
DeClerq had stepped it up in practice, and Pitino would never publicly
criticize a player (because it would lower his trade value).
I love what I am seeing out of this team. There maybe a lot of
games like the one against Orlando, but with time they will get a lot
better. My only long term concern is that we have too many guards who
expect playing time. I would still like to see a consolidation trade
where we give up Dee/Dana, Minor/Jones, and a big guy for a big guy with
a $7M one or two year contract. That would allow Tyus Edney to be
activated. He could be a real spark plug off the bench.
If you think all the way back to the exhibition game against the
knicks, the Mills trade had just occured but the players didn't have time
to join their new teams. McCarty is more important to us than Mills is to
the knicks, which favors us. On the other hand, this game will be at MSG.
It'll be interesting to see if our young players can run their old players
off of their own court. This will be the first regular season game that
I'll be able to watch from start to finish. So I'm psyched.
I just remembered something. The best part of the game against
the Bulls (of what I saw) was in the fourth quarter when McCarty was
called for nudging Jordan out of bounds. Tommy Heinsohn was so pumped up
that he yelled, "That is BULL$%&#...... good thing this is on cable."
I just got the new mailing list. As for the criticism of Pitino
for benching Walker, I'm sure he had his reasons. We have no idea what
goes on at practice or what Walker does the night before a game. It's
probably none of our business, but if Walker is staying out late drinking,
Pitino isn't afraid to lay down the law. That's why he's here. As for
Pitino yelling at Billups during the timeout, he may have had to yell to
be heard over the crowd. And if he's yelling at some of the fans, more
power to him. We Boston fans are probably the most negative in the
country.
I was critical of some of his free agent signings, but I loved the
last two trades he made. And I think he is the best coach in the world
for a young, developing team. So I will never question his coaching
methods. And Massenburg is happy to be going to Vancouver to get away
from Pitino? That says a lot more about Massenburg then it does about
Pitino.
