I think most teams develop a first choice "go to" guy and then several
alternates. Bird, then DJ or McHale, for instance; Jordan, or others.
Malone or Stockton or Hornacek. Since Walker has confidence outside,
can post up or drive, he's the logical first choice. Fortunately, he can
also pass like the other first choices mentioned and that makes Mercer or
Billups or even Knight valuable as open jump shooters or cutters to the
basket.
I noticed the comment, Dorine, about Rogers and his knees. That was
one reason he was not selected higher in the draft, but then he played in
every game last season. I hope it's a case of other GMs not having the
self-confidence or worrying about their position if they make a mistake.
